A state in Nigeria’s northwest geopolitical region is known as Katsina State (Hausa: Jihar Katsina; Fula: Leydi Katsina). Jigawa, Kano, Zamfara, and Kaduna States are all bordered by Katsina State. The state capital, known as the “Home of Hospitality,” and the town of Daura have both been referred to as “ancient centers of Islamic learning and culture” in Nigeria.
When it separated from Kaduna State in 1987, Katsina State was established. Despite only ranking 17th out of 36 states in terms of area, Katsina State is the fifth most populous state in the nation with about 5,800,000 persons as of 2006. Islam is the most widely followed religion in the state, and the Hausa people make up the majority of its population. Katsina became Nigeria’s sixth state to enact Sharia law in 2005.
Dikko Umar Radda, a supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and a member of the All Progressives Congress, is the current governor of Katsina State. The state is regarded as Buhari’s political stronghold because he won it in the 2019 presidential election with about 80% of the vote. Buhari is a native of Daura.
One of the Nigerian states that has been most severely affected by terrorism recently is Katsina. The terrorist organization Boko Haram abducted about 300 kids in the hamlet of Kankara in 2020.
